Synopsis:
Story that spans more than 50 years in the lives of two men at the Peking Opera, friends since childhood, and the woman who comes between them. Also an absorbing drama of the period in Chinese history from the warlord era through the Cultural Revolution.

Synopsis:
Set in China in the 1930s, the film is about the relationship between three characters. Ing’er, the daughter of a theatre-owner, welcomes the return of Shao-dung, her fiancée and a fine cellist from America. Shao-dung soon finds himself captivated by the opera “Fleeing By Night” and its actor, Lin Chung. While Shao-dung attempts to blend eastern and western music, Ing’er becomes torn between her affection for both men, and a growing intimacy between them.
電影提要:
1930年代，自幼在美國生活與學習的大提琴家徐少東返回祖國準備與素未蒙面但一直有書信往來的未婚妻英兒成親。可是在隨英兒在自家戲院看過崑曲《夜奔》並結識其主演林沖後，徐少東的感情天平開始更多地傾斜到林沖身上，但隨後有關他與林沖的流言蜚語傳出，頂不住世俗壓力的他最終告別英兒回到美國。
二戰後，英兒赴美找到徐少東，二人談起林沖為找徐少東的悲慘經歷時，徐少東明白到他的內心會一直為英兒和林沖留有位置。

Synopsis:
This love story spans many decades of modern Chinese history. In the beginning (1938), an independent-minded female writer strikes up an acquaintance and then a romance with a man who is collaborating with the Japanese. Despite warnings from friends that their romance can only end in catastrophe for them both, she persists, but eventually the two of them are separated during the Civil War, and their fates only become clear in 1989.
電影提要:
1943年在日本佔領下的東北紛亂不安，沈韶華因和同學初戀被父親關在閣樓裡，只能將被壓抑的情感注入寫作中，年復一年，韶華成了一位小有名氣的作家。父親過世後，韶華繼續寫作，進而結識了文化官員章能才，兩人更墜入情網，並和韶華情同姐妹的好友月鳳三人一起度過了一段和樂的時光。
